Clearing and Forwarding, Mombasa port

Clearing and Forwarding at Mombasa, with every step explained first

Accord Diraks Logistics Limited (ADL) clears imports and exports (the work a customs broker does in Europe) with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) at Mombasa. Its people at the port lodge the customs entry, follow it to customs release and get your cargo released from the shipping line. Before you commit, ADL explains each step and what it will cost you.

  1. Berth
  2. Discharge
  3. Customs
  4. Road
  5. Door

What ADL does for you at the port and customs

Drafted, awaiting ADL
  • Checks your documents against what the cargo needs and tells you what is missing.

  • Lodges the customs entry in iCMS, KRA's customs system, through the KenTrade single window, the government portal for import documents.

  • Gets the cargo released from the shipping line. In Kenya this release is called the delivery order.

  • Sees to cargo discharge.

  • Explains the clearing process and each cost before you commit, and gives you a printout of the information required, at no cost.

Customs agent licence: Placeholder: licence year and number, if ADL chooses to show it (Q-09). Other certification: Placeholder: AEO or ISO status, only if held (Q-10). Clearing points beyond Mombasa: Placeholder: ICD Nairobi, JKIA or border points, only if confirmed (Q-22).

How it works

How does ADL clear my cargo at Mombasa port?

Drafted, awaiting ADL
  1. Prepare

    You send the documents

ADL checks them and asks for anything missing.

  2. Customs

    ADL lodges the entry

The declaration goes into iCMS with the values and codes from your documents.

  3. You pay duties and taxes through KRA's official channels

Duties go to KRA, never to a phone number.

  4. Customs may inspect

Customs decides which cargo to inspect. That choice belongs to customs, not to ADL and not to you.

  5. Customs release, then release from the shipping line

    ADL handles both.

  6. Road

    On to Nairobi

ADL's own trucks take the cargo on. See Mombasa to Nairobi transport.

ADL will not promise you a clearance time. Release depends on complete documents, on whether customs inspects and on when duties are paid. A promised time is a guess.

  • What do I need to send you before my cargo arrives?

    Drafted, awaiting ADL

Send what your supplier sent you: the shipping documents and the commercial invoice. The clearance readiness checklist lists the rest by cargo type.

  • What happens after customs release?

    Drafted, awaiting ADL

ADL's transport division takes over. The cargo goes onto an ADL truck with a tracking device, and the transport office follows it to Nairobi.
